Extra strong packaging

Made from recycled materials Polybags' extra strong packaging is made from extra thick polythene to cope with those extra tough jobs.

Our extra strong products have a minimum polythene thickness of 100 micron (400 gauge), meaning only the very toughest bags and sheeting make the grade.

Offering fantastic strength and excellent tear and puncture resistance, our extra strong packaging is able to cope with the heaviest of heavy duty loads along with the sort of rough, tough and sharp edges that would rip regular polythene.

Gauge & micron - a quick guide to polythene thickness

Polythene thickness can be measured in one of two units:

Gauge - the traditional imperial measurement. 100 gauge is equal to one-thousandth of an inch (0.001").
Micron - the metric measurement, introduced more recently. One micron (μm) is equal to one-thousandth of a millimetre (0.001mm) or one-millionth of a metre.

Polythene can range in thickness from as little as 5-10μm for the most lightweight polythene to over 1,000μm for industrial-strength polythene.

Many polythene products can be classified as either light, medium or heavy duty. Here are some common examples of each to give you an idea of thickness.

Light duty (e.g. 25-30μm / 100-120 gauge): Economy bin liners, bread bags
Medium duty (e.g. 40-50μm / 160-200 gauge): Good quality bin liners, economy mailing bags
Heavy duty (e.g. 100+ μm / 400+ gauge): Rubble sacks, heavy duty mailing bags

Extra strong polythene for heavy duty work

Any product on this website that carries the strong man symbol belongs in our 'extra strong' range.

These products all have a minimum polythene thickness of 100μm / 400 gauge, with some polythene sheeting range - such as our super layflat tubing and damp proof membrane ranges - as thick as 250μm / 1,000 gauge.

This level of industrial-strength polythene sheeting offers peace of mind for those who need it most, whether working in the construction industry or renovating their own home or workplace.

The same goes for our bags. From our PriceBuster heavy duty polybags through to our HDS rubble sacks, all of our extra-strong bags are capable of dealing with heavy duty loads that lesser polythene bags could struggle with - both heavy in simple weight terms and heavy duty in the type of contents they can handle.

Our extra strong bags can cope with heavy building site waste with rough surfaces and jagged edges, such as bricks or aggregate. They can also cope with heavy metal items and contents with fairly sharp edges.

We stock plenty of polythene bags that can handle an extra bit of weight - our classic and premium black sack ranges can cater with any domestic or commercial waste respectively, whilst our Polymax sacks offer super strength in a thinner bag.

Any polythene bag upwards of 160μm is pretty tough and capable of dealing with most domestic, workplace or garden waste... but sometimes pretty tough is not enough.
