Industrial composting standard EN13432 - criteria

This compostable wheelie bin liner conforms to industrial composting standard EN13432. Testing criteria include:

• Disintegration - after 12 weeks, no less than 90% of the composted material must be small enough to pass through a 2mm x 2mm mesh
• Biodegradation - after six months, no less than 90% of the material must have biodegraded into carbon dioxide (CO2), water and biomass
• Toxicity - the material must adhere to strict limits for toxic elements, including fluoride and 10 heavy metals
• Compost quality - this must not be negatively affected by the addition of the compostable material

These white compostable wheelie bin liners should be stored in a cool, dark place, in their original packaging to best preseve product quality. Use within 12 months.

How to dispose of clear compostable wheelie bin liners

These bin liners fit a standard-sized wheelie bin, so should be used to line a food or organic waste bin. They can then be collected along with the contents, as they will rapidly break down in an industrial composting unit (see EN13432).

Whilst most domestic composters will not be big enough to fit a full wheelie bin liner, the bags themselves can, in theory, be composted at home, although this process will take longer than industrial composting (does not meet EN13432).

These bags should not be recycled. If you are not able to send them for industrial composting and home composting is not an option, please dispose of them with your regular domestic waste.
